The Whisperdisc of Dawnsong is a round, palm-sized magic device that looks a little like a shiny silver plate, but it is actually a listening and memory crystal. It belongs to the category of enchanted sound-keepers, a rare kind of object used by traveling bards, sky-sail captains, and wandering historians. Its edge is smooth and cool, and thin runes are carved in a spiral from the rim to the center, where a tiny sun symbol glows softly when the disc is awake. When someone sings, speaks, or plays music near the Whisperdisc, it can drink in the sound and keep it safely inside, holding it like a gentle echo that never fades. To hear the stored sound again, the owner brushes the runes in the right order, and the disc releases the voices, songs, or stories, as clear as the first time they were spoken. The Whisperdisc is said to be made from dawn-glass, a rare metal-crystal born where the first light of morning touches mountain storms. It is light enough to carry on a chain around the neck, yet strong enough to survive dragonfire and thunderbolts. Many people search for these discs because they hope to save important memories, secret spells, or the last song of someone they loved very much.

==Known History and Owners==

The Whisperdisc of Dawnsong first appeared in stories about 600 years ago, during the Age of Echoing Skies. No one agrees who made the very first disc. Some say it was a lonely star-mage who wanted to remember the voices of friends who had turned to starlight. Others say it was crafted by a chorus of wind spirits who were afraid that songs might one day be forgotten. What most scholars do agree on is that the earliest Whisperdiscs were kept in high towers and deep libraries, guarded by careful keepers who feared thieves and curious children.

The oldest known owner with a clear date was a sky-bard named Liora Cloudstep, around the year 213 of the Echoing Skies. She used her disc to record the songs of air whales and storm gulls as she sailed between floating isles. When she vanished in a violet storm, her Whisperdisc was found inside a cracked lifeboat, still holding her last lullaby for the frightened crew.

About 200 years later, in the year 427, a quiet monk called Brother Tallen inherited a different Whisperdisc from a traveling merchant. Tallen did not sing, but he gathered stories. He walked from village to village, asking elders to tell legends into the disc. Because of him, many small tales, which might have faded away, are still known today. His disc is now locked in the Moonfern Archive, and listeners must get special permission to hear even one story.

During the Year of Shattered Bells, 589, a thief named Mirka Quickfingers stole a Whisperdisc from a noble’s vault. Instead of selling it, she used it to capture secret meetings and prove the noble’s crimes. After that, rulers became more careful. Today, most Whisperdiscs are owned by trusted historians, royal messengers, or family caretakers, and each disc carries its own long chain of voices stretching back through time.
